In all my years of working with organizations I found that three things are needed to have an inspiring environment, that is, once a feeling of being fairly paid is in place.
First and if nothing else is present, an office with peers who smile makes a big difference. Nothing uplifts another more than a smile. Smiling spreads among peers and makes the day go by better.
Second is an environment that has an emotional atmosphere that a lot of accomplishment is taking place. Most people find in their life that having personal accomplishments and being part of teams that are meeting and exceeding their objectives brings them some of their very best career and life enjoyments and memories.
Third,set the stage for both accomplishments and happy people by using visual awareness products that accomplishes the following points:
Set goals for initiatives and make them visible.
Use signage to provide details on why the initiative is being undertaken. Show how each person makes a difference.
Use a small reminder gift to ask for ideas ”what do you think” that will lead to reaching the goal.
Visually as well as verbally give directions.
Promote next steps needed to be taken with little reminders that are kept in the work environment.
With visible scorecards show progress being made.
Have pictures of people making things happen.
When you reach your goal have a celebration with a special “Thank you” banner and appropriate recognition awards. Awards don’t have to be expensive, they just need to be well designed to help your people feel they are appreciated.
